Welcome to Lewis School, home of the Eagles, where all students soar.
2014-2015 promises to be a year of achievements.
An improved economy and additional funding means that students will attend five additional days this year (180 vs. 175). We also have additional funding to support our learning program.
One area that the school and district has invested heavily in is technology. The site now has more than 100 iPads for student and teacher use. We have two computer labs and each classroom is equipped with computers for student use. Even more technology will be added throughout the year.
The investment in technology is important as we endeavor to instruct 21st century learners. The Common Core standards emphasize critical thinking and digital literacy. In addition, the new state assessment -- California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) -- is taken completely on the computer. In addition, many of the school and district assessments are taken online.
With the additional technology, students will also have access to powerful programs to increase their learning and technological tools to research and produce educational products such as movies, presentations and ebooks.
We've also invested in more traditional instructional materials. For example, class sets of quality literature and expository text.. Another example is a variety of hands-on materials that will allow students to explore mathematical principles.
There are many other areas for achievement:
- increasing parent participation
- continued improvement of school's appearance
- continued focus on safety
- new initiatives to increase positive behaviors and prevent bullying
- additional professional development for all staff
I encourage input and participation from the entire community. Please feel free to call the office or email me.
