Welcome to second semester! We are half way through the 2013-14 school-year and time seems to be flying by. Before we know it, we'll be celebrating another successful promotion ceremony.
For eighth graders, this time of the year means one semester until high school. For seventh graders, it should be the time when they are comfortable with middle school, and into a good routine, which prepares them for eighth grade.
I want to congratulate the 209 seventh graders and 189 eighth graders who received recognition at our Honor Roll assemblies. These students, who earned a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA, were awarded a certificate of achievement in the presence of parents and other students earning high GPAs.
On February 6, 2014, Colton Middle School was officially named a "California School to Watch" middle school. What that means is that we have practices and programs in place that support student achievement, as shown in the history of our state test scores, in the areas of academic excellence, social equity and developmental responsiveness. We are a high achieving, high impact middle school. The process to become a School to Watch involved teachers and administrators doing a self assessment of our strengths and weaknesses and then writing a narrative of our successes and what we will focus on in the future to continue to improve. A team of educators read our narrative and a portion of that team visited our campus to validate what we described we were doing. We became one out of two middle schools in the county of San Bernardino to be awarded this prestigious honor.
CMS sports are in full swing with Girls' and Boys' softball. Games are scheduled for February 20th, 24th and 27th, the last two being home games.
ASB will continue to plan activities for our students to participate in at lunch and after school. Encourage your student to take part and be involved!
